Trinidad and Tobago has recorded its first case of the omicron variant.

This was confirmed by health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh during the ministry’s virtual covid19 briefing on Monday. The case was found in a woman who traveled from New York, with a positive PCR test, to Panama, where she boarded the plane with a negative antigen test.

Minister Deyalsingh stated the positive PCR test was noted by Port Health in Trinidad and Tobago and that the woman was placed in isolation where she now remains.

According to the Minister, 14 people who were in radius with the omicron positive person in the plane have been contacted. They are being monitored while having been placed in isolation at home however, all had negative PCR tests.

The female passenger in question was flagged at the airport and never entered the general population.
