Management of the Caribbean Communications Network Television 6 (CCN TV6) is now under heavy watch by labour leader Watson Duke, following their suspension of journalist, Urvashi Tiwari-Roopnarine.

Duke, President of the Public Services Association stated in his Facebook live earlier this evening that Tiwari-Roopnarine’s suspension was wicked and oppressive and that he was not leaving the matter alone. He implored that the broadcasting network evoke her suspension, as her actions did not warrant suspension.

According to Duke, Urvashi’s language for which he said she was suspended was not in any way provocative but rather strong and illustrative. He said that as a journalist and as an individual, she deserved the right to defend her position and to defend her point of view.

“I am standing today with Urvashi Tiwari-Roopnarine, and I am saying that TV6 should literally recall that suspension, it is illegal it is wrong on the grounds that citizens have freedom of speech and in making a comment, that was not vicious, that was not vile, it was in no way derogatory, in no way provocative, her comment was basically illustrative stating that “aye, when allyuh see me doing my job, I am doing my job without fear or favour.”

According to sources, Tiwari-Roopnarine would have made a comment with regards to the Minister of Health, Terrence Deyalsingh. She also engaged in a response on social media where she said, “you may not understand me, know me or get me, but I assure you…. if there is one **** out there who has the best interest of the public, who will take shame and insults for the hundreds who have died, who will make sure authorities do their job, it’s me.”
